Co-op Press Fundraiser for Schools and Organizations
Co-op Press has created a win-win program that enables high quality school, community, and professional musical organizations to raise funds for operational expenses or special projects by doing what they do best, making music. Our goal at Co-op Press is to replace the electronic versions of the mp3 samples on our website with quality acoustic digital recordings. Your school or musical organization can help us reach this goal by applying to become a Co-op Press Promotional Recording Artist. If accepted, the school or musical organization will receive the chosen music for free and can earn up to $500 USD per recording. The Co-op Press catalog contains repertoire for soloists, ensembles, and large musical organizations, therefore the entire group, or individuals and ensembles from within the organization, can apply to be a recording artist and earn money for the organization. The amount of money awarded to the organization is dependent upon the length and instrumentation of the composition or arrangement. This program is open to all school and non-profit musical organizations anywhere in the world. The musical organization will grant permission to Co-op Press to use the recording solely for promotional purposes. We hope that applicants will have their own recording equipment or have access to someone who would volunteer to record for them. If not, the musical organization would be responsible for any costs involved in creating the recording.
Benefits to Musical Organizations
1. Raise money by doing what your musical organization does best, making music.
2. Have the opportunity to rehearse and perform quality music.
3. The music will be given to the musical organization free of charge and is theirs to keep and perform as often as they would like.
4. Opportunity to communicate with composer, Sy Brandon via email or phone regarding interpretation of the music.
5. Your musical organization will be recognized as having provided the recording on our website.
Comments from Some Participants
"Our ensemble had a wonderful experience recording Sy Brandon's music. The pieces were varied and interesting, and the opportunity allowed our students to practice working as if in a professional recording environment-- challenging them to have the discipline to make excellent music in a studio setting." Dr. Evan Feldman, Conductor, The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Wind Ensemble
Application Process
1. The application can be completed online or printed and mailed. To see a list of works needing to be recorded, click here.
2. The application must be accompanied a recording of two sample compositions that illustrate the proficiency of the musicians planning to record and their ability to handle tonal contemporary classical music. The recordings must have been made within 2 years of the date of application. Recordings will be evaluated for tone quality, ensemble precision, intonation, musicality, and technical accomplishment appropriate for the choice of pieces to record as listed in the application.
3. Applications are acted upon within a month of receipt and recording must be completed within six months of acceptance. At the time of acceptance, the amount of funds to be awarded will be indicated and an agreement letter will be sent that enumerates expectations for both parties.
4. It is required that the organization send Co-op Press a rehearsal recording at least two weeks prior to the final recording for input from the composer. Co-op Press reserves the right to approve the final recording before funds are issued. If the recording does not meet Co-op Press’ standards, the organization may be asked to record parts or all of the piece again, until the standards are met. Funds will be sent once the recording is approved.
5. Applicants may apply to record as often as desired.
